NEW PARTNERSHIP FOR UKRAINIAN AID!
As of April 2023, NOROC and the Romulus T. Weatherman Foundation are partners in providing Ukrainian aid! Because of this partnership, we are able to expand the scope of our service to Ukrainians in need.
How the partnership works:
|
The Weatherman Foundation, along with several other NGOs, started and continues to run the Tulcea Humanitarian Logistics Hub. Their speciality: getting humanitarian aid into in the hands of Ukrainians continuing to reside in their home country. Tulcea, Romania, where both the Hub and NOROC's home offices reside, is only about 20 miles from one of the busiest border crossings between Romania and Ukraine. This southeastern access point has proven to be an excellent route into Ukraine that allows for the Hub to get aid onto the eastern front of the war more quickly than from other northwestern crossings.
We are incredibly grateful to come alongside the Weatherman Foundation and the Hub in their work. Make sure to check out their websites and share the good news!
The new partnership is only one facet of our service to ukrainian refugees:

HOW NOROC HAS BEEN HELPING IN THE UKRAINIAN REFUGEE CRISIS
NOROC has become a vital part of the relief effort and has offered emergency care, food, and shelter for refugees as they try to recover and make decisions. With the help of generous donors in the United States, and the rogue provides funds for housing, food, clothing, medical care, and emergent needs at seven different locations within the city and county. Some Ukrainians have fled the cities of their country, but are relocating in camps and safer areas near the border on the Ukrainian side of the Danube river. NOROC is also providing food in basic needs for these people.
NOROC's psychologists and social workers organize activities designed to help refugees reach within to find strength and calm. They also provide counseling sessions and routine activities to help refugees work through their recent trauma. Joining with NOROC's small groups, the Ukrainian children enjoy the same new opportunities as the Romanian children we serve every day. As Ukrainian children can continue studies remotely, NOROC make sure they have secure Internet connections.

WHY NOROC US UNIQUELY SUITED TO HELP WITH THE REFUGEE CRISIS
Location! Location! Location!
From a high point in Tulcea City, where NOROC's main office is located, you can see into our neighbor, Ukraine. When Russian troops invaded Ukraine, earlier this year, NOROC expended our focus. One of the border crossings from Ukraine in to Romania it's only 20 miles from the city center. More than 200,000 Ukrainian refugees – mostly women and children – have cross the Danube river by ferry to enter our county and city.
Since NOROC's staff has been working with children of trauma for over 25 years, our team is well equipped to use their skills to help Ukrainian refugees. The emotional and spiritual benefits of NOROC's ministry to the refugees is immeasurable!
Caring for those in need is the hallmark of NOROC's mission. Wether nurturing children of all ages, supporting education, or offering safety to Ukrainian refugees, NOROC lives into God' invitation to widen our embrace of those in need.

HOW CAN I HELP?
The best way to help NOROC with this effort is to DONATE! Though the idea of Mission/Service-Learning trips is tempting, they are not advisable. We need folks skilled in specific areas like social work, counseling, and translation - specifically Romanian and Ukrainian. The ability to hire people with these skills as well as pay for the items our Ukrainian siblings need - generators for heat in the winter at the refugee camps, food, water, relocation costs, warm clothing, etc. - is what is most important!
